Books Profile (Medical)

Consistent with the Article and Award Profiles, the Book Profile presents an analysis of discipline specific book publications in three sections: Book Presses, Book Market Share and Books Radar.

The first section, Book Presses, lists the Press Name and the numbers of books by discipline faculty published under each Press. This section can be filtered either by Author Type (Author, Editor, Translator) using the left most dropdown menu, or manually using the checkboxes to the left. After making a selection, click “Apply” to recalculate the Market Share. Custom Press sets can be saved using the “Saved Filters” dropdown menu.

The Book Presses Listing provides all book presses that have published at least one scholar in the selected discipline, the number of discipline books, and the total number of books recorded for the all peers in the discipline for the time window used. All columns are sortable. The book press list is customizable. All book presses are preceded by a check box. Unchecking a box and clicking the “Apply” button removes the press from the list and from the Market Share and Radar charts. Custom views of the book press list can be saved and reused in other sessions.

The Book Market Share section shows the Institution Name, number of Books published by that institution’s faculty within the discipline, and a chart where the faculty icons and bars represent the person and Book Market Shares, respectively. .

Hovering over an institution’s bar displays the number of books published by institutional faculty in that discipline, the total number of discipline books published across the peer group, and the percentage of discipline book publications by that institution's faculty. 

Placing your cursor on the “faculty” icon for a particular institution will show the number of faculty in that discipline at the institution, the total number of faculty in the discipline across the peer group, and the percentage of disciplinary faculty that institutional faculty represent

Selecting “Per Faculty” from the drop-down menu in the upper-left brings up a graphic showing book publications per faculty, within the discipline, for each institution. Hovering over a bar shows the value for that institution. 

The Books Radar presents a radar chart showing unit percentages for the following metrics: Books per Faculty, Percentage of Faculty with Books, Total Books, and Faculty with Books.
