Article Profile (Medical)

There are three sections to the Article Profile page: Journals, Article Market Share, and Articles Radar and Citations Radar.

First, the Journals section provides a listing of all journal titles associated with the discipline, along with the number of unit Articles, Discipline Articles, and Discipline Citation Rate. The journal Discipline Citation Rate is equal to the number of discipline citations for that journal to articles published within the citations time window divided by the number of discipline articles for that journal published within the article time window. The journal list is customizable. The user can select the Top 20 or Top 100 journals by volume, or all journals associated with the discipline, or create a unique list. All journal titles are preceded by a check box. Checking the box keeps the journal title in the disciplinary list; unchecking a box removes the title from the disciplinary list. Clicking on the “Apply” button reconfigures the journal title list and the resulting two charts. Custom views of the journal title list can be saved and reused in other sessions.

The second section is the Article Market Share. The chart shows the institution name, and number of articles, followed by a bar chart showing the percentage of articles within the disciplinary literature, along with a faculty icon representing the percentage of faculty within the discipline. Placing your cursor on the person icon will show the number of institutional faculty within the discipline, the total number of faculty in the discipline across peers and the percentage of peer faculty that institution discipline faculty represent.

Hovering over the bar will display similar information for Articles.

Selecting “Citations” from the drop-down menu in the upper right corner changes the view to citations and presents each institution discipline and its citation rate within the disciplinary literature.

The Articles and Citations Radars swap along with the selection in the Article Market Share. The Articles Radar presents a radar chart showing unit percentages for the following metrics: Total Articles, Articles per Author, number of Faculty with Articles, Articles per Faculty, and Percentage of Faculty with an Article.

The Citations Radar shows unit activity for the following metrics: Total Citations, Percentage of Authors with a Citation, number of Faculty with Citations, Citations per Publication, Citations per Faculty, and Percentage of Faculty with a Citation.
