Academic Analytics Product Modules
Academic Analytics offers a wide array of solutions to many types of research institutions. In this document, we describe our product offerings and the different levels of access that subscribers can obtain.
Product Modules
Benchmarking Suite
The Academic Analytics database includes information on nearly 240,000 faculty members associated with more than 10,00 Ph.D. programs and 12,000 departments at over 460 universities in the United States. All data are matched to individuals; the “person” is the unit of analysis. The database is fully customizable, allowing users to contextualize their institutional, departmental, program, and individual faculty research activity through creating custom peer groups at different levels of analysis as well as custom time windows and custom weighting of individual variables.
Comparative/Details Database
The Comparative/Details Database is available to all clients. The database contains two views of national scholarly activity, (1) comparative data which act as a base or ground and (2) details data which is an overlay on top of comparative data. The Comparative Data are released annually and provide a locked snapshot of research activity for a given time window. The Details Data include everything in the Comparative Data plus greater details regarding the individual pieces of scholarly activity linked to faculty in the Comparative Data. Unlike the Comparative Data, the Details Data are updated daily. The Details Data allow greater flexibility for clients to drill down into the particulars of individual faculty research activity to see publication meta-data for journals, books, book chapters, and conference proceedings in addition to detailed information on clinical trials, US patents, honorific awards, and grants.
Master License Agreement (MLA)
The Master License Agreement is the second level of licensure. Clients with a Master License Agreement have access to the entire Academic Analytics production data set. Access includes the entire Comparative and Details databases, as well as access to the larger data warehouse. Further, this level of access offers other tools such as Collaborations and Research Insight. Finally, custom analyses performed by Academic Analytics analysts are provided to answer specific client questions.
Discovery Suite
Discovery Suite is a packaged resource composed of three separate, stand-alone tools; Research Insight, Faculty Insight, and External Discovery Site. By combining Academic Analytics data and university warehoused data, these tools provide different avenues of access to view and display faculty research activity on campus and throughout the nation.
Research Insight
Research Insight is a separate tool on the Academic Analytics portal. Coverage is national, not limited to a single institution, department or program. Research Insight provides the means to find subject matter experts within a single institution or externally, within the national research landscape, as well as honorific award and funding opportunities.
Features
- Create a Team Roster allows users to build a team and aggregate related funding opportunities; save the team roster and view at a later date.
- Conduct Team Analysis provides displays to view individual contributions to the team.
- Uncover Funding Opportunities displays federal and private opportunities tied to search terms and faculty.
- Related Terms supplies users with additional terms related to the search term rather than individual faculty.
- Related Networks displays maps of research collaborations relevant to the search terms, showing thought leaders and groups across the entire national research landscape, not just at a single institution.
- Suggested Honorific Awards was developed to help administrators identify targeted honorific award nomination opportunities for faculty.
External Discovery Site
Through combining Academic Analytics data with university warehoused data, Academic Analytics has developed a search environment of research connections and opportunities. These data can be made available to the public through an integrated, fully configurable user interface which allows the public to search the institution’s research portfolio and display information at the faculty, program, department or center level. Through integrating university and Academic Analytics data, users can:
- Showcase the institution’s research portfolio and capabilities
- Enable users to search for and identify faculty experts in specific fields for possible research collaboration
- Allow users to interface with scholars based on topics of interest
- Expose scholars’ research externally, possibly leading to funding to support further research
- Attract potential students with interest in a particular research area
Faculty Insight
Built on the same platform as our popular Research Insight tool, Faculty Insight provides faculty users with an integrated search tool, a pre-populated faculty profile page, a profile editing tool with which to add additional scholarly activity, and targeted funding opportunities—all in one integrated, intuitive interface.
