Filtering a Search (Research Insight)
There are a variety of filtering options available for Research Insight Scholar searches. These appear above the text box in the top left of the page.
In the Search By drop down options exist for Research Topic or Scholar Name. The Search Within drop down contains easy access to searches for scholars within My Institution, My System, My State, Association (custom institution groupings), My Nation, or Global. The Search Within selection will affect the filtering options present within the panel that opens from the right when All Filters is clicked.
In the All filters panel options exist for Institutions (available when Search Within is something other than My Institution), Fields of Study, Faculty, and Works.
The Institution filter has two options, Institution Type and Institution Name. The Institution Type filter makes it easy to filter on institution meta data, such as AAU membership or Carnegie classification. These filters will always reflect the current state of such meta data. The Institution Name filter should be used when the desired group of institutions does not conform to some combination of meta data selections, for example within a group of institutions forming a research partnership. Only one of Type or Name can be used when filtering.
The Fields of Study filter provides listings nested under Academic and Medical high level categories. The listings can be displayed either by Broad Field or by Discipline. When displaying by Broad Field, specific Disciplines will be nested under the Broad Field to which they are affiliated.
The Faculty filter contains options to Limit to Alumni from the user's institution, restrict results to scholars with the selected Faculty Type or Faculty Rank, and limit to scholars who obtained their terminal degree within a selected range of years.
The final option is the Works filter in which results can be restricted by year or work type.
Any filtering options selected will be applied on the next Search that is performed, and results will be restricted to those conforming to the filter options. The Reset Filters button can be used to reset all filters to their default state, but note that the default filters would not be applied to the results until another Search is performed.
